American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Trauma Quality Improvement Program

2019 TQIP Annual Scientific Meeting and Training

Trauma Quality Improvement ProgramWe are excited to be holding the 2019 American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program’s (TQIP) Scientific Meeting and Training in Dallas, TX, November 16–18, 2019. The meeting will be located at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

Last year, we had approximately 1,800 conference attendees representing more than 600 hospitals and collaboratives. The conference program offered exciting insight into a variety of topics, including a keynote address delivered by retired U.S. Army Colonel John B. Holcomb, MD, FACS, who served as a general surgeon in Somalia during the 1993 Black Hawk Down incident; presentations on preparing, training, and aftermath planning for intentional mass casualty events from those who have lived through them; lessons learned from a survivor of the Virginia Tech tragedy; the pediatric perspective on firearm-related violence; and a presentation describing innovative patient discharge planning, including pain management and limiting opioids for trauma patients.  Thank you to all of our speakers and attendees who contributed to another very successful meeting!

New this year, the 2019 TQIP Annual Scientific Meeting and Training will have a focus on Error Management and High-Functioning Teams. To illustrate the importance of both, we will have a Trauma Simulation session, where a team of experts examines the functioning of an ad hoc trauma team performing live trauma simulations. Our Trauma Survivor this year will be Todd Maxson, MD, who will speak to his experience as a patient in the trauma system he helped build. We will also present our newest Best Practice Guidelines on Non-Accidental Trauma, covering pediatric, geriatric, and intimate partner violence. In addition, we will have breakout sessions for registry staff, trauma medical directors, and trauma program managers to ensure everyone receives the knowledge most useful and pertinent to their role on the TQIP team.
