American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Message from the Administrator

If the Coronavirus Disease 2019 outbreak has taught surgeons one thing, it’s that planning and preparation are vital to health. Planning before the flu season to get vaccinated and preparing your daily schedule to eat healthy and stay hydrated, get enough sleep, and exercise all contribute to a healthy body plan.

Do we apply the same preparation to a surgical career plan? Are we looking ahead when we plan which professional society to join, to stay proficient and comfortable with technology, and which social media influencers to follow. All of these choices can play a role in the health of your career.

In this month’s issue of Associate Fellow News, Nura Ahmed Fieturi, MBBCH, an Associate Fellow from Libya, shares how she looks to the College for peer and mentor support, and surgical trends. Shannon Foster, MD, FACS, will be hosting a webinar for Associate Fellows in April to discuss developing community-based outreach programs.

And don’t forget to submit your essay on Surgeon versus Machine; Evaluating the Role of Artificial Intelligence and Innovating Technology in Surgery—an essay contest with a $500 cash prize by May 1. Plan wisely and stay healthy this month.
