ACS-AEI Fellow Wins Award for Top Paper Presented at the Annual ACS Surgical Simulation Conference

AEI Fellow Nimesh D. Naik, MD, gave the inaugural Fellow paper presentation at the 2017 conference and also won the 2017 “Best in Show” award. In preparing for this year’s Annual ACS Surgical Simulation Conference, the Program Committee incorporated the recommendation from the American College of Surgeons-Accredited Education Institutes (ACS-AEI) Fellowship Program Committee to review the abstract submissions by AEI Fellows for possible inclusion into the podium presentations. Currently, there are 10 AEIs that also are accredited to offer ACS-AEI Simulation Fellowship programs. The Fellows’ abstracts would be required to go through the same rigorous review as any other abstract being consider for presentation. After reviewing 65 abstracts, 10 were selected for podium presentations, and one of the 10 was in fact from a Fellow from the Fellowship Program.

One of the new features at this year’s Annual ACS Surgical Simulation Conference was to award a “Best in Show” to one of the podium papers. The winner received free registration for the 2018 meeting. The winner, as selected by four judges, was Nimesh D. Naik, MD, a resident who is also one of the Fellows from the ACS-AEI Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic, for his paper, “Personalized Video Feedback Improves Suturing Skills of Incoming General Surgery Trainees.”
