American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Participate in ACS Division of Education’s “Surgeons and Engineers: A Dialogue on Surgical Simulation,” Virtual Meeting March 10

In the last three years, the ACS Division of Education has established an innovative collaboration with engineers to advance the field of surgical simulation and to pursue joint research and development projects that involve the participation of surgical educators and engineers. An important product of this collaboration has been a special meeting involving surgeons and engineers on the day prior to the Annual ACS Surgical Simulation Summit. Given its success, this meeting has been expanded to a full day of plenary sessions, scientific paper and poster presentations and Breakout Sessions. The 2021 “Surgeons and Engineers: A Dialogue on Surgical Simulation” meeting will be offered at 9:00 am–4:00 pm CT, March 10, and will explore synergies between engineers, surgeons, scientists, physicians and educators to advance simulation-based surgical education.

Russell H. Taylor, PhD, John C. Malone Professor of Computer Science, with joint appointments in mechanical engineering, radiology, and surgery, and director of the Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, will deliver the keynote address. A special panel will follow and address various elements of successful collaboration between surgeons and engineers. The Division of Education’s Engineering Committee has selected 13 abstracts for podium presentation, and 27 abstracts as scientific posters from the high-quality abstracts received. An interactive breakout session on topics encountered in surgeon-engineer partnerships will follow the presentations.

Registration is now open for this Surgeons and Engineers meeting with a $75 fee for all participants. The registration deadline is March 5; however, due to limited space, early registration is suggested.

Note that the Annual Surgical Simulation Summit will follow, March 11–12, and the summit has a separate registration fee. We would appreciate you sharing this information with any colleagues and graduate students who would have interest in this meeting.
