Biography

I am a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Florida State University College of Medicine. I am the Director of the First Physicians Group Thyroid and Parathyroid Center and the Director of Head and Neck & Endocrine Surgery and Laryngology at the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System in Sarasota, Florida. I was formerly the Charles W. Cummings MD Professor and Director of Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. My clinical practice is solely focused in Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery with an emphasis on the surgical treatment of benign and malignant thyroid disease, hyperparathyroidism, lymph node metastases and recurrent thyroid and parathyroid disease. I led the team that first described the trans-oral vestibular approach for thyroid and parathyroid surgery in 2011 and I am currently performing trans-oral vestibular approach thyroid and parathyroid surgery and studying outcomes related to this approach. I have been performing RFA for thyroid nodules since 2019 and I am also studying novel therapies as directed approaches to thyroid and parathyroid disease.
