Biography

Matthew T. Hueman, MD, FACS, FSSO, is a board-certified breast surgical oncologist, dedicated to providing comprehensive and personalized cancer care for his patients. Dr. Hueman completed his undergraduate degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York before earning his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He then completed his general surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC before finishing his surgical oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. He is certified from the American Board of Surgery and the Society of Surgical Oncology. During his distinguished military career, where he served as Chief Medical Officer and a trauma surgeon during six combat deployments, Dr. Hueman also held multiple leadership roles in cancer care and education at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Dr. Hueman was named Washingtonian Top Doctor, chosen by his peers. He is an active member of several professional organizations where he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology, and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He has special interest in and specialized training in the care of patients with breast cancer, with benign breast conditions, and at high risk for breast cancer. He excels in the expert care of patients with unusual tumors and with common tumors with unusual presentations. Most importantly, he works very closely with the patient, the patient's family, and his colleagues on the multidisciplinary cancer care team to ensure that the care is optimally delivered and uniquely chosen. He has an amazing wife who is a radiation oncologist and Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute, with whom he has three beautiful children (two boys and one girl). In his spare time, Dr. Hueman enjoys spending time with his family. He is an avid long-distance runner and enjoys outdoor activities like camping, kayaking, walking in parks, and basketball. He also enjoys supporting his children at their local baseball and soccer practices and games. He will care for you as part of his family
