Dr. Campos is the Paul J. Nutter Professor of Surgery, Chairman of the Division of Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgery and Co-Director of the Advanced GI/MIS, Bariatric and Foregut Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. He is a world-renowned expert in minimally invasive surgery and therapeutic endoscopy for obesity, esophageal, and gastric diseases. Dr. Campos completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Southern California (USC), where he also completed Research and Clinical Fellowships in Minimally Invasive and Foregut Surgery. He served as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at the University of California San Francisco before joining the University of Wisconsin (UW) Madison as Associate Professor and later Professor of Surgery, where he started and was the initial Director of the UW Advanced GI/MIS Fellowship. Dr. Campos is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and has a Focused Practice Designation in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of University Surgeons, the Pacific Coast Surgical Association, among others. Dr. Campos has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and chapters in books and has presented his work at more than 170 national and international meetings.
