Biography

Dr. Chu is the Chief of Surgical Oncology, Vice-Chair of Academic Affairs, Director of Surface Malignancies Program and practices at LSU Health Hospital and the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, Dr. Chu provides patients the care and treatment needed to fight illness and continue with daily life. Our patients' needs, outcomes and current research findings are all combined to develop individual plans for each patient. Surgical Oncology offers the novel surgical treatment, Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) to our patients with advanced abdominal malignancies. Feist-Weiller Cancer Center is the only cancer center in Louisiana that offers HIPEC presently. It also offers Mammosite, the 5-day targeted radiation therapy for breast cancer patients. This outpatient radiation treatment allows patients to finish treatments sooner and get back to daily life. Feist-Weiller has the highest concentration of Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) trained surgical oncologists in the area and has been recongnized nationally for our breast cancer outcomes. Dr. Chu is one of the original founders of LSU Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) group - the only such multidisciplinary group in the region. Dr. Chu provides surgical care for patients with the following types of cancer: breast cancer skin cancer cancers of the gastrointestinal tract (including esophagus, stomach, hepatobilliary, pancreas, small bowel, colon and rectum) soft tissue sarcoma recurrent and/or metastatic disease, and cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion program (HIPEC). Annually, the Surgical Oncology service cares for approximately 10,000 patients. We are a major referral center for complex abdominal surgeries throughout the state of Louisiana.
