Dr. Mark Cipolle received his MD and PhD from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois-Chicago and Cook County Hospitals where he developed his interest in trauma and critical care. He went to the University of Minnesota and completed both clinical and research fellowships in surgical critical care. He is board certified in general surgery, surgical critical care and neurocritical care. After his fellowship, he joined the faculty at Lehigh Valley Health Network as an acute care surgeon serving as the Associate Trauma Medical Director and Director of Surgical Research from 1993-2007. He then went to Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, DE and served as the Trauma Medical Director and Director of Outcomes Research for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Cipolle has now returned to LVHN and will serve as the Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and Vice-Chair of Research for the Department of Surgery. His primary clinical responsibilities are to insure that the care of the critically ill and injured patients in our community is the best it can be. He is also dedicated to supporting and improving this excellent care with clinical research, and education of the next generation of acute care surgery providers.
