Benjamin Li obtained his M.D. from Yale University in New Haven. He completed his general surgery residency at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He received additional training in cancer research as a NIH T32 fellow, and completed his surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. His first academic appointment was at Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport, where for 20 years, he served both as a surgeon at the medical school and at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. From 2008 to 2015, Dr. Li was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and held the John C. McDonald Chair of Surgery. In 2015, Dr. Li was recruited to join the MetroHealth System and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is the Cancer Center Director at the MetroHealth System, and holds the Edward Mansour Professor of Surgical Oncology at Case Western Reserve University. He has also obtained a MBA from CWRU. Dr. Li’s clinical interest include breast cancer, soft tissue sarcoma and melanoma. His previous research interest was in the dysregulation of protein synthesis in malignant transformation. His current research interest is in health services-related work. He has over 250 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, has served on various editorial boards, and has held leadership roles in numerous academic, surgical, and cancer organizations.
