David McAneny, MD is Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Boston Medical Center. He is also a professor of Surgery and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. McAneny’s practice includes surgical oncology and endocrine surgery. He is the recipient of the 2005 Grant V. Rodkey Award, bestowed by the Massachusetts Medical Society for “outstanding contributions to medical education and medical students.” He is also the 2008 Boston University faculty selection for Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor medical society. Dr. McAneny received the Erwin F. Hirsch, M.D. Teaching Award from graduating Boston University Surgery Chief Residents in both 2009 and 2014, the Stanley L. Robbins Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented at the 2010 graduation to the "outstanding educator" at BUSM, and the Educator of the Year Award in Clinical Sciences, conferred at the 2013 BUSM graduation ceremony. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the New England Surgical Society and immediate past-President of the Boston Surgical Society. Under his leadership, the Department of Surgery's Quality and Patient Safety team seeks to develop a national model for high-quality care, particularly in a safety-net environment. Their work has been recognized by the Massachusetts Hospital Association (2015 Accountable Care Compass Award), America’s Essential Hospitals (Honorable Mention for 2016 Gage Award), and the ECRI Institute (2018 Health Devices Achievement Award) “for excellence in health technology management and patient safety.”
