Biography

I am currently the Dean of the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Salina, KS- the smallest medical school in North America focusing on training physicians for rural practice. I am also the 1st Vice President of the American College of Surgeon (2023-2024). My specialty is rural surgery. Trained in Dallas at St. Paul Hospital and Southwestern Medical School. I have experience in private practice, employed practice and academic practice. Trained as a true general surgeon, I have a wide interest in all forms of surgery. My current interests are undergraduate medical education, rural surgery, health policy, graduate medical education and coaching. I live in a small town in Kansas (McPherson, KS). I am not currently practicing as a primary surgeon, but still assist when called upon by my younger associates. I get great joy out of my current education role.
