Operation Giving Back (OGB), the volunteerism initiative of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), serves as a comprehensive resource center where you can find information to investigate and participate in surgical volunteer opportunities. OGB provides the necessary tools to facilitate humanitarian outreach among ACS members of all specialties, at all stages of their profession, and with an emphasis on domestic and/or international service. Through a network of high-impact partner organizations, OGB directs you to volunteer opportunities that align with your skills, passions, and beliefs.


New OGB Medical Director Girma Tefera

Girma Tefera, MD, FACS, will join the staff of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Member Services February 2 as the new Medical Director of the Operation Giving Back (OGB) program. OGB is a comprehensive resource that helps surgeons find volunteer opportunities worldwide that match their expertise and interests.

Four Fellows Honored with Humanitarian and Surgical Volunteerism Awards

On October 28, 2014, four members of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) were named recipients of the 2014 ACS/Pfizer Surgical Humanitarian and Volunteerism Awards in recognition of their selfless efforts as volunteer surgeons who provide care to medically underserved patients, domestically and abroad.
