American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Call for RAS-ACS Symposium Essays

Competency Based Training

The Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons (RAS-ACS) invites all ACS Resident Members and Associate Fellows to submit an essay to the annual RAS-ACS Symposium. This year’s topic is Competency Based Training.

Competency based training has the potential to drive more purposeful, efficient training of surgical residents, but the risk of this paradigm shift is lack of true objectivity and uniformity in determining which residents have demonstrated proficiency in select milestones.

First-place winners of the essay contest will compete in the debate at Clinical Congress 2021 on Sunday, October 4, 1:00–3:00 pm in Washington, DC. The two second-place essay contest winners will have their submissions published in the November issue of the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons.
