Surgeon versus Machine: Evaluating the Role of Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Technology in Surgery

The Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons (RAS-ACS) Communications Committee's annual essay contest is now open for submissions. This year's topic is is “Surgeon versus Machine: Evaluating the Role of Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Technology in Surgery.”

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been proposed as a potential solution to many clinical problems. Your essay should critically evaluate current AI technology, and other innovations under discussion or investigation, regarding its potential pros and/or cons for resident training and the practice of surgery. Personal examples or anecdotes are encouraged.

Submit your essay

Essays are due by 5:00 pm (Central) on May 1. No exceptions will be allowed. The winning essay will be published in the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons and the author will receive a $500 cash prize.
