South Texas Chapter
Founded in 1970, the South Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, as of 2014, has 2634 members. The mission of the South Texas Chapter is to provide education and advocacy for members so that they may deliver optimal care to surgical patients in South Texas. The Chapter Executive Council includes officers, councilors, committee members, Governors of the College and past presidents. Councilors include membership from four districts in South Texas: Texas Eastern (Houston, Galveston & Beaumont), South Texas (San Antonio & the Valley), Texas Hill Country (Austin & Temple) and West Texas (El Paso). Ten surgical training programs participate at the February South Texas Annual Meeting. Each training program takes a turn “hosting” the annual meeting by providing a speaker to the yearly Pokorny Lecture, along with a presenter on ethics. The annual meeting also features abstract presentations, a resident Surgical Jeopardy competition, and a skills competition.
