American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter

Founded on October 17, 1986, the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons remains very active in the city of Philadelphia and surrounding counties, with a count of 468 members in 2014. The Metro Chapter is one of four Chapters in Pennsylvania and is currently working on initiating a Multi-Chapter Coordinating Council (MCCC). Approximately 100 surgeons attend an annual dinner meeting for the Metro Philadelphia Chapter, which is held in conjunction with the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery. Since 2009, the Chapter has offered a free annual mock oral board examination for senior residents and recent graduates preparing for the General Surgical Certifying Exam. The Chapter Executive Council meets regularly throughout the year and includes officers, members-at-large, resident members-at-large, Governors of the College, past-presidents and staff. The Metro Philadelphia Chapter contributes annually to the ACS Foundation and supports medical students interested in surgery by sponsoring their attendance at the Philadelphia Surgery Symposium.
