American College of Surgeons (ACS) Supports Nomination of Rep. Tom Price, MD, to Lead HHS

NEWS FROM THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC (November 29, 2016): Today, David B. Hoyt, MD, FACS, Executive Director of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), issued supportive comments on President-Elect Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Rep. Tom Price, MD, (R-GA), to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“The American College of Surgeons applauds President-Elect Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Rep. Tom Price, an orthopaedic surgeon, to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I was able to call Dr. Price earlier today to offer the College’s support and congratulations on his nomination to be the next Secretary of HHS. The College has a long history of working with Dr. Price on issues that have protected and enhanced patients’ access to quality surgical care. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Dr. Price has led the charge on reducing administrative burdens on surgeons, freeing their ability to care for patients. In addition, he was a leader in the campaign to repeal the broken sustainable growth rate formula previously used to calculate Medicare physician pay, which threatened Medicare beneficiaries’ access to care.

“Dr. Price is a stalwart champion for patients and their surgeons and the ACS looks forward to working with him on key issues such as the implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act. The ACS encourages the Senate to swiftly confirm Dr. Price’s nomination as Secretary of HHS.”
