The Women in Surgery Committee (WiSC) met for our biannual meeting at this year's Leadership & Advocacy Summit and have several new exciting projects on the horizon. We will be creating a pool of potential speakers and moderators for future Clinical Congress sessions to increase gender, racial/ethnic, and institutional diversity among participants. We will also be organizing a “What I Wish I Had Known” video series, where experienced women surgeons will share their experiences and provide practical advice on how to deal with common obstacles and overcome the challenges that women may encounter throughout their careers. During Clinical Congress 2022, WiSC will be sponsoring several sessions, including sessions on avoiding burnout through exploring career possibilities outside of traditional practice, effective mentoring across gender and cultural boundaries, and making pregnancy work during a surgical career. Finally, the committee is currently accepting nominations for the 2022 Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Award and applications for the WiSC Mentorship Program. The application deadline for both is May 20, 2022.
