The Advocacy and Issues Committee is hard at work on the second episode of the “Arming with Knowledge: Building the Culture of Firearm Safety and Injury Prevention” podcast. Visit the RAS website to listen to the first episode. Registration opens soon for the ACS 2022 Leadership & Advocacy Summit, which will be held in person and virtually April 2–5. RAS members are invited to follow the RAS-ACS social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter), and look out for advocacy-related content on Sundays. Our committee encourages new RAS members to join in our monthly conference calls on the first Wednesday of each month. We welcome any innovative ideas to help advocate for both patients and the surgical profession. If you would like to be added to the invitation listserv, please email RASNews@facs.org.
Associate Fellow Committee
The Associate Fellow Committee has produced a series of video interviews that give viewers a glimpse into the lives of subspecialists. The series explores why the subspecialists chose to become Fellows of the College and how ACS membership has supported their career journey from medical student/resident to ACS Fellow. In this month’s episode, we are featuring a conversation about urology.
Kirsten Greene, MD, FACS, professor and chair, University of Virginia, and Jyoti D. Chouhan, DO, PharmD, assistant professor, Oregon Health & Science University, discuss their experiences and considerations for urology surgeons with Lyndsey J. Kilgore, MD, assistant professor of surgery and breast surgical oncologist, University of Kansas Medical Center, and Haley Nadone, a first-year medical student at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee has chosen the topic for their August Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons takeover. The title is subject to change, but compilation articles from each of the five RAS Committees will address the subject of “Two Years Later: What Have We Learned during the COVID Pandemic.” Committees are forming their author teams now. If you are interested in contributing, attend an upcoming standing committee meeting. Send an email toRASnews@facs.org to join a committee.
Education Committee
The Education Committee is looking forward to Clinical Congress 2022 and 2023. If you have suggestions for sessions you would like to see presented at Clinical Congress 2023, please submit them to our portal. We will submit them on your behalf to the ACS Program Committee in May. Access the portal before March 28.

The Executive Committee is forming an advisory committee to discuss Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as it relates to our work.
