ACS Surgical Patient Education Toolkit Can Be Uploaded to Your Website—Free Trial Available

The ACS has released the Surgical Patient Education Toolkit, which allows individual subscribers to deliver ACS-curated education directly from their individual practice website to patients and caregivers and includes access to all ACS Patient Education materials. These materials were developed by the ACS Patient Education Committee with input from the Governors and Advisory Councils. In addition, the toolkit includes applicable information that the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute have reviewed.

The toolkit, written in plain language delivers point-of-care surgical education to help patients understand a procedure, make informed decisions, and confidently manage their entire perioperative experience from preparation to at-home care. Features of the platform include:

  • Comprehensive coverage of procedures, medications, smoking cessation, and questions to ask, as well as safe pain control for general, cardiothoracic, pediatric, and vascular procedures
  • Preoperative preparation, operation description and options, common risks and benefits, and links to the ACS NSQIP Risk calculator, postoperative home information, pain management plans, and when to call your surgeon
  • An extensive video library for home care management of colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy, feeding tubes, central lines, and wound care training for:
  • Lacerations and Abrasions
  • Surgical Wounds, Drains and Tubes
  • Complex Dressings and Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
  • Diabetic and Pressure Ulcers
  • Venous Leg Ulcers and Lymphedema
  • Surgical videos on lung and breast cancer
  • Full color illustrations to optimize learning

Each subscription allows users to control display of the content and the ability to publish customized patient education content that can be personalized with professional information. The toolkit can reside on a surgeon’s website and content be sent directly to patients.

We invite you to enroll in a 60-Day Free Trial of the ACS Patient Education Toolkit.

After the free trial, the cost for an Annual Toolkit Subscription is $200. Upon purchase, subscribers will receive an email with instructions to visit fromyoursurgeon.org and log in with the username and password. An annual subscription is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
