SurgeonsVoice: Learn More, Take Action, and Make an Impact in 2022
The SurgeonsVoice action center is regularly updated to reflect developments regarding several ACS-supported legislative priorities that Congress is considering. Thus, surgeon-advocates are encouraged to frequently visit SurgeonsVoice online to learn more, take action, and make an impact. As a reminder, in December 2021, surgeons played a critical role in persuading Congress to mitigate significant Medicare payment cuts. Surgeon advocates can continue to help improve and protect quality surgical patient care by reviewing updates via SurgeonsVoice.

New Leadership on House Ways and Means Committee, Including Surgeon Representative
Rep. Greg Murphy, MD, FACS, (R-NC) will fill the opening on the House Ways and Means Committee left by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who resigned from Congress earlier this year. Rep. Murphy, a urologist and the only practicing surgeon in Congress, also will serve on the Committee’s Health Subcommittee and retain his role as Vice-Chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus.
In addition, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) is now the ranking member on the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, as well as the second-ranking Republican on the Ways and Means Committee.
The takeaway: New leadership and a surgeon member of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee means new opportunities for the ACS to connect and work with Congress..
