Apply to Join Innovative ACS General Surgery Oral Examination Prep Course by October 6

September 13, 2022

The ACS has announced the fall 2022 offering of the ACS General Surgery Oral Examination Prep Course for Tuesday, November 1 and Friday, November 4. This innovative virtual course is specially designed to help candidates prepare for the American Board of Surgery General Surgery Certifying Examination. It will focus on the cognitive elements of responding to oral examination questions, such as rapidly organizing thoughts for presentation, applying decision-making algorithms, and conveying care plans with key decision points and rationale. Applications to participate are due Thursday, October 6.

The didactic content will highlight key concepts essential for responding during oral examinations. Each course participant will complete oral examinations with pairs of senior faculty members who present case scenarios, pose questions based on the scenarios, and provide individualized verbal and written feedback to each participant. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to develop concise patient care plans in response to oral case scenarios, succinctly convey care plans, including key decision points and rationale, interact effectively with examiners, and apply principles of communication in virtual environments.

Participants will be expected to be available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CT on the day of the course. Visit the course web page and submit the completed application form to ceprepcourse@facs.org no later than October 6 deadline.
