The ACS, in association with Pfizer, Inc., is accepting nominations for the 2023 Surgical Volunteerism and Humanitarian Awards. All nominations must be submitted through the ACS nominations page by March 3, 2023.
The ACS/Pfizer Surgical Volunteerism Award, offered in four potential categories annually, recognizes surgeons committed to giving back to society by making significant contributions to surgical care through organized volunteer activities.
The Domestic, International, and Military awards are intended for ACS Fellows in active surgical practice whose volunteer activities go above and beyond their usual professional commitments or retired Fellows who have been involved in volunteerism during their active practice and into retirement.
Resident Members and Associate Fellows who have been involved in significant volunteer activities during their postgraduate surgical training are eligible for the Resident award.
The ACS/Pfizer Academic Global Surgeon Award is given in recognition of surgeons committed to giving back to society by making significant contributions to surgical care through organized educational activities.
The award is intended for ACS Fellows in active academic global surgical practice who apply research, training, and evidence-based advocacy to make significant contributions to surgical education and care in regions of inequities, or retired Fellows who have been involved in academic global surgery during their active practice and into retirement.
The ACS/Pfizer Surgical Humanitarian Award is given in recognition of a Fellow who has dedicated the majority portion of their career to ensuring the provision of surgical care to underserved populations without expectation of commensurate reimbursement.
The ACS encourages everyone to nominate any deserving Fellows. Self-nominations are permissible and encouraged, but such nominations require at least two outside letters of support and three references (one of each must be of a Fellow of the College). Program directors, please consider nominating deserving residents.
