Retirement Planning/Investing for Surgical Residents and Fellows

On November 8, 2021, the Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons (RAS-ACS) hosted a webinar presented by Nick Coyne.

Lost in the number salad of 401Ks and 403bs? Come learn the basic terminology and facets of investing as we take participants on a step by step walk through of what investing means, goals and objectives of investing, and how to get started. This session will have a specific focus on investing and retirement planning as it pertains to medical providers and the unique aspects of resident, fellow, and young faculty finances.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand the basic terminology of retirement planning and investing
  • To obtain an understanding of the various types of investment funds and portfolios and the pros/cons of each
  • To have a general overview of retirement planning and investing goals as they related to various time points throughout one’s life
  • To obtain an understanding of how to get started with retirement planning and investing during surgical training

More about Nick Coyne

Nick joined Morgan Stanley in 2016 as a Wealth Advisor Associate. During Nick’s first two years at Morgan Stanley he partnered with senior financial advisors helping to craft financial plans for their client’s. In 2018, Nick transitioned to the role of Financial Advisor Associate. Nick in his new role, develops client financial plans for his team, and serves as the lead financial advisor on multiple relationships.

Nick graduated from Missouri State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Planning. He has earned his Series 7, and Series 66 registrations. Nick was born and raised in Southwest Illinois, and currently resides in Columbia, Illinois. He enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and playing sports.
