Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery

Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery

Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery (EBDS) helps you improve surgical quality through quick, easy-to-follow modules that make guideline-based practices less cumbersome. EBDS includes point-of-care modules for the top 20 most common general surgical procedures.

Each module in EBDS is based on evidence that helps you quickly understand a practice guideline. Instead of going through the 100-250 pages of most practice guidelines, EBDS takes you through step-by-step modules, helping you put the content into practice more easily.

As a benefit of ACS membership, all EBDS online modules are free.

Take advantage of this free evidence-based knowledge for you and your patients.

The EBDS modules were developed through a rigorous multi-step process, including contributions from experts on the ACS Board of Governors and the ACS Advisory Council for General Surgery. EBDS is not intended to reflect standards of care as defined by the ACS but rather to serve as educational resources that practicing surgeons may use within the context of their respective practices. These guidelines should be used when appropriate based on the surgical condition and the surgeon’s experience, as well as needs and preferences of individual patients.

Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery and Surgical Patient Education Collaboration

Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery (EBDS) and the ACS Surgical Patient Education Program have come together to provide evidence-based practice guidelines and protocols that help guide your patient-care decisions. These materials include ACS patient education resources that enable your patients to be active participants in their own recoveries.

EBDS online practice guidelines and decision support modules discuss surgical paths related to the 20 most common general surgery procedures. Now many modules link to online ACS patient education tools.

The ACS Home Skills Training Program and Operation Brochures prepare patients to provide complex self-care after discharge. These materials give your patients the tools to manage their own recovery from their operations.

Visit Surgical Patient Education to view the materials online as well as order kits and brochures.
