Message from the Chair

It is my sincere pleasure to invite you to attend the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, October 16–20 in San Diego, CA. We will be getting together in person for the first time in 3 years, and we are excited about seeing everyone there! The ACS Clinical Congress remains the premier annual surgical meeting for surgeons, surgery residents, medical students, and members of surgical teams.

Message from the Chair

The hallmarks of Clinical Congress are a broad range of outstanding hands-on and didactic learning opportunities and timely discourse on the most relevant surgical practices and research, along with unparalleled access to peers.

Julie A. Freischlag, MD, FACS, FRCSEd(Hon), DFSVS, MAMSE, ACS President, has selected “Surgeons Sowing Hope” as this year’s theme. The Program Committee, under the leadership of Fabrizio Michelassi, MD, FACS, MAMSE, and the ACS Division of Education, led by Ajit K. Sachdeva, MD, FACS, FRCSC, FSACME, MAMSE, have developed an outstanding, cutting-edge Scientific Program to address critical education and training needs and equip surgeons with skills to achieve the best outcomes in the ever-changing healthcare environment.

The 2022 Clinical Congress program addresses essential clinical and non-clinical content. An exciting series of Named Lectures will again be delivered by world-renowned experts in their respective fields, including a new American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Lecture. More than 120 Panel Sessions on timely clinical and non-clinical topics will be offered. The Special Sessions offered during the lunch hour will address important topics of interest to a broad range of attendees. A wide array of Postgraduate Didactic and Surgical Skills Courses will focus on acquisition of knowledge and skills through best practices in education and training methods. Special certificates will be offered for successful completion of these courses, to support the professional activities of the attendees. The Scientific Forum will include presentations of late-breaking scientific advances and a large number of exciting surgical research presentations and ePosters. Video-Based Education sessions will showcase surgical procedures. Meet-the-Expert Sessions and Town Hall Meetings will provide a more informal learning experience.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Self-Assessment credit will be available for specifically designated sessions, including CME credit for moderated poster rounds. Certificates of Verification will be provided for Skills and Didactic Courses. Additionally, many sessions will address specific regulatory mandates for state licensure and ACS Accreditation and Verification programs.

On behalf of the American College of Surgeons, I look forward to seeing you in San Diego. With best regards,

Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, FACS, DFSVS, MAMSE
Chair, ACS Board of Regents
