The Surgery Group of Los Angeles

Program Highlights

The TTP Associate will serve as a junior partner in The Surgery Group of Los Angeles. The practice offers experience in general surgery, surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, and breast surgery. In addition to inpatient and operating room activity at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Group members operate at several outpatient surgical centers in the Los Angeles area.

Program Description

The Surgery Group of Los Angeles is the busiest private practice surgical group at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and includes six general surgeons in full-time clinical practice. The TTP Associate will serve as a Junior Partner. The surgeons have fellowship training and focus in a number of general surgery specialties including surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, and breast surgery. All members practice general surgery including emergency (non-trauma) surgery. There is considerable flexibility to provide TTP Associates with additional experience in a variety of aspects of general surgery practice. The TTP Associate will work with all members of the group and gain experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, in and out of the operating room. The TTP Associate will participate in the care of patients both at Cedars-Sinai and at the outpatient surgical centers.

Incoming TTP Associates will undergo an initial, two-week period of close observation by the TTP Chief. The TTP Chief will then complete an evaluation with subsequent clinical experience specifically designed to address the strengths and needs of the TTP Associate. Based on the results of evaluation, additional focus will be provided in outpatient, inpatient, or emergency room evaluation and additional operative experience can be provided in a variety disciplines.

After the initial evaluation period, TTP Associates will gain gradual structured and mentored independence within the surgical group. Initially, the Associate will function as a fellow and perform inpatient and outpatient evaluations and operative procedures under the direct observation of one of the surgical group partners. As the TTP Associate progresses, there will be a gradual transition towards independence where the Associate will be able to serve as an attending surgeon, in close consultation and mentorship with a surgical group partner. All surgical procedures during the TTP Associate’s tenure in the program will be performed with a group partner as an assistant.

The TTP Chief and Senior Associates will complete evaluations quarterly. The TTP Chief will meet with the TTP Associate quarterly to discuss the Associate’s progress and make any adjustments to the planned experiences. At the end of the program, the TTP Chief will provide an overall assessment, and specific recommendations for future development will be discussed.

TTP Associates will participate in all practice management meetings of the Surgery Group of Los Angeles. There will be abundant opportunities to gain experience in all aspects of clinical practice including practice development and management, collections, medical liability issues, contracted appreciation, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.

TTP Associates will have access to the full gamut of CME activities at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In addition, expenses for attendance at one national meeting will be covered in full.
