The TTP Associate at Geisinger has a unique opportunity to structure a year that is designed to benefit and meet the individual needs of the associate. Geisinger Medical Center is a tertiary care center with multiple surgical subspecialties and there are four additional community practice sites within the Geisinger Health System. Opportunities exist for the TTP Associate to participate in trauma and acute care surgery, colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, minimally invasive/bariatric surgery, and general surgery. Geisinger also has a surgical residency program. The TTP Associate will interact with surgical residents and may be involved with surgical education. The TTP Associate may be evaluated during each rotation for their operative skills and level of autonomy while developing an independent practice. The TTP Associate schedule will be designed to complement that of the residency program so that the residents can serve as first assists and learners to the TTP Associate. The TTP Associate will be responsible for his or her own clinics and have dedicated operative block time. The TTP Associate will also have an opportunity to learn and review concepts regarding practice management including RVU structure.
The academic year may be spent at both the main hospital as well as several community practice sites, all of which are a part of the Geisinger Health System, based on the goals of the TTP Associate. TTP Chief Mohsen Shabahang, MD, PhD, FACS, and Associate Director John Widger, MD, FACS, are responsible for the educational activities of the TTP Associate. There will also be Senior Associates designated for each rotation to ensure oversight and guidance.
The TTP Associate will also be included in the robust residency didactic program which includes clinical, didactic, simulation, and research teaching. We also want to provide enough flexibility so that the TTP Associate can tailor their schedule to fit their needs.
