American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

A Message from the Regents

Most have heard the aphorism: “Life is a marathon, not a sprint.” This is true for surgeons—our long time in training, learning curves for complex procedures, and careers that require endurance as well as strength. The events of the current pandemic have caused us to run a difficult marathon, with less than optimal preparation but with the need for us to run the race and finish. Faced with a rapidly evolving international health care crisis, the ACS has taken the lead in the race, and is “pacing” the surgical “runners” in our country. All of us know how to lead…and we will win.
