Global Surgery Student Alliance

The Global Surgery Student Alliance (GSSA) is the national student-run global surgery working group for the U.S. affiliate of the International Student Surgical Network. By exposing students to the global surgery early on, GSSA hopes to help them build their surgical careers with global surgery in mind. Ultimately, many students are willing and able to make significant contributions to global surgery, and GSSA aims to be a resource that facilitates those efforts.

Vision: Sustainable and accessible surgical, obstetric, and anesthesia care worldwide.
Mission: To educate, inspire, and unite students through engagement and mentorship in global surgery, including anesthesia and obstetrics/gynecology.

Resident and Associate Society Global Surgery Working Group

Surgical trainee interest in global surgery is rising, as shown by an increasing number of global surgery tracks in residency, clinical electives, and research fellowships. Until now, there has not been a formal platform within an established surgical society for trainees to advocate for their role and potential contributions to the field. With more than 13,000 resident, fellow, and junior faculty members, the Resident and Associates Society of the American College of Surgeons (RAS-ACS) is dedicated to addressing the needs and issues relevant to its constituents.

Vision: To effectively harness the enthusiasm and unique skillsets of surgical trainees to collaboratively and sustainably advance the field of global surgery.
Mission: To break silos via a unified surgical trainee voice passionate about global surgery, in order to define, advocate for, and realize our role in the field for maximum impact.
