Excelsior Surgical Society Meeting: Delivering Quality Surgical Care

Excelsior Surgical Society

Sunday, October 27 | 7:00 am–4:30 pm

Excelsior Surgical Society MTO

The fifth annual Excelsior Surgical Society Meeting will serve as a scholarly forum with the aim of showcasing the current state of surgery in the U.S. military and will provide an excellent opportunity for all military surgeons—current, past, and future, active duty, reservist, or retired—to exchange shared experiences and knowledge as it relates to the practice of military surgery. The meeting is a Tri-Service military platform which facilitates the exchange of information on advancements in surgical education, the optimization of systems-based practices, and that fosters surgical research.

Excelsior Surgical Society Meeting at Clinical Congress

The theme of this year’s meeting is “The Complete Surgeon.” This daylong conference will include discussions on the academic/leadership proficiency of current and recent military surgeons, a panel session on military-civilian partnerships, and a presentation focused on the ability to provide combat care after one leaves military service. Highlights of the meeting will include the annual Region 13 ACS Committee on Trauma (COT) paper competition, general surgery consultant/specialty leader discussions on how assignments, deployments, and GME will work amongst all the services and the Major John P. Pryor lecture delivered by COL (Ret.) Mark Bowyer, MD, FACS. Networking opportunities will be available for military residents, young surgeons, and residency program directors to meet with fellowship program directors and military surgical consultants. The ACS Scientific Forum is again offering a military track to showcase the best surgical research conducted by the U.S. military. Dr. Steven Schwaitzberg, MD, FACS will deliver the 2019 Excelsior Surgical Society Edward D. Churchill Lecture entitled, “Blood and the Moving Wheels of History.”

Please join us in San Francisco to support the Society’s continued efforts to enhance military surgery and deliver the highest quality care.

Registration information will be posted soon.
