Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum Submission

The Scientific Forum offers researchers the opportunity to present the results of their original, basic science, clinical, education, health sciences, and translational research during Clinical Congress 2019.

Who Should Submit an Abstract?

  • Surgeons and scientific investigators of all levels
  • Surgical residents
  • Medical students

What Should Be Submitted?

A 250-maximum word abstract that presents a concise summary of hypothesis-testing research—either completed or in progress—that has not been presented elsewhere or previously accepted for publication.  Case reports will not be accepted and will be removed from the committee’s review. Revisions are not accepted after the deadline, including changes to the author/co-author order.

Accepted abstracts will be selected for ONE presentation:

  • An oral (8-minute PowerPoint presentation)
  • Quick shot (3-minute oral presentation)
  • e-Poster format (3-minute e-poster presentation)

Submitters should designate at the time of submission which of the presentation methods they prefer for presenting their research at Clinical Congress (if their abstracts are accepted).

Deadline: Friday, March 1, 2019 11:59 pm (CST)

Please note: The committee does not accommodate or consider late abstract submissions.

Notifications will be sent in May 2019. Please make sure to add scientificforum@facs.org to your approved senders list.

Publication

Accepted abstracts by scientific researchers in training will be published in a supplemental issue of Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS). Accepted abstracts by non-trainees and e-Posters will be published electronically by JACS.

Authors of top-scoring abstracts accepted as 8-minute presentations will be invited to submit a full manuscript by July 1, 2019. These selected manuscripts will be eligible for expedited review. Manuscripts accepted from the expedited review will be published in a special edition of JACS.
