ACS International Group Housing

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) offers ACS International Group Housing services for international groups attending Clinical Congress 2018. In addition to international group housing, which includes hotel room and taxes at hotels within the official ACS room block, opportunities to add breakfast, porterage, gratuities, shuttle service (per the official convention schedule), and group help desk are also available.

Visa Information

Attendees are strongly urged to apply for a visa as early as possible, preferably at least 90 to 120 days before the start of the meeting.

For detailed information regarding obtaining a visa, please visit the U.S. State Department website. Due to recent policy changes, U.S. Consulates may request additional documentation from applicants for visas to enter the United States. This may include information concerning travel and work history as well as other details. We encourage travelers to familiarize themselves with these procedures and factor in additional time for visa processing.

Citizens from countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program may be unable to enter the United States without Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval from the U.S. government. Welcome Letter

A letter stating your intent to attend the ACS Clinical Congress may be required in order to obtain a travel visa. Attendees may obtain an automatically generated letter from the College upon registering for Clinical Congress. Visa letters are not available to attendees who are not paid in full or who have canceled their registration.

Foreign Language Assistance

Language assistance at Clinical Congress is offered through translators who are available by phone. If you need assistance, visit the designated area near the Become a Member booth. In addition, major hotels may have multilingual staff to assist with questions and requests.

October daytime temperatures in Boston average 60°F /16°C. The minimum temperature usually falls between 45 and 50°F/7 and 10°C.


It is recommended that attendees check exchange rates for U.S. dollars prior to travel; the Wall Street Journal has current market data. Currency Exchanges are located at Logan International Airport, including Travelex Currency Services and American Express Currency Exchange. Alternately, Currency Exchange International is located in Copley Plaza 100 Huntington Ave., Floor 2, Boston, MA 02116, which is accessible via public transportation.

Time Zone

The United States has four time zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific. Boston is located in the Eastern Time zone.

The U.S. uses 110 to 120 volts AC (60 cycles). Adaptors that may be required are for two flat blades with a grounding pin.

Become a Member at Clinical Congress

If you are not already a member of ACS, or know an interested nonmember colleague attending the Clinical Congress, visit the Become a Member booth located in the convention center to apply for ACS membership. The membership application fee will be waived for individuals applying at the meeting.

Please bring these documents with you on a flash drive to support and speed up your application.

  • Fellows: Certification certificate, proof of completion of surgical training, and current curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Associate Fellows: Residency completion document or an official board/country certification document
  • Residents: Letter verifying training status
  • Medical Students: Letter verifying educational status
