American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Advocating via SurgeonsVoice and Your Patients

Utilizing SurgeonsVoice

SurgeonsVoice is an interactive grassroots advocacy program designed with you, the advocate, in mind. SurgeonsVoice.org, a user-friendly, Web-based advocacy tool is an excellent way for surgeons to learn more, take action, and share their stories. Educating and motivating members to use their voice to empower surgery in Washington is key to our advocacy efforts. Patient Participation in Advocacy

Patients can serve as a tremendous resource when advocating on behalf of specific legislation as they are ultimately affected by its enactment. Legislators listen to their constituents, so encouraging patients to write or call their policymakers in support of legislation helps demonstrate the impact it could have on the larger patient population. Due to confidentiality and privacy considerations, it is important to be sensitive to an individual patient’s situation before approaching him or her to become an advocate.
