On July 18, 2017, the American College of Surgeons sent a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, MD, asking for his help in easing the increasing administrative and regulatory burdens that surgeons are facing every day. The letter specifically addresses the following areas:

  • Prior authorization
  • Skilled nursing facility three-day stay requirement
  • Program integrity
  • Two-midnight rules
  • Evaluation and management documentation and electronic health records
  • Documentation, certification and recertification
  • Medical translator services
  • Lack of support for evolving clinical care models
  • Transplant center certification requirements
