We are pleased to again offer a limited number of scholarships to Resident members of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) who are interested in attending the upcoming Leadership & Advocacy Summit. The seventh annual Summit is a dual meeting that offers volunteer leaders and advocates specialized educational sessions that focus on effective surgeon leadership, interactive advocacy training, and coordinated visits to Congressional offices.

Award Details

This scholarship award will cover up to $500 in housing and transportation costs. This may also include your registration fees, but it may NOT cover food/beverage charges as meals are provided at the conference. You must be a U.S. Resident member in good standing with the ACS to be eligible.

Scholarships will be awarded to a broad representation of all facets of ACS Resident members.  Special consideration will be given to first-time attendees of the Leadership & Advocacy Summit, as well as candidates in the senior years of their residency programs. Scholarships will not be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to: 

  • Participate in 1–2 advocacy or ACS membership-focused conference calls or webinars within the 6 months following the Summit.
  • Stay for all programming on Sunday, May 20 and Monday, May 21, with preference given to those planning to stay through the Congressional Lobby Day on Tuesday, May 22.

  3. Your institution and year of residency
  4. A brief summary (no longer than one page) explaining why this opportunity interests you, what you hope to gain from it, and how you plan to utilize the knowledge you obtain.
  5. Your proposed travel dates

Scholarship winners will be announced on or before Friday, March 2, in order to give you ample time to register and make travel arrangements.
