Surgery News—the monthly newspaper from the American College of Surgeons—makes its debut

CHICAGO—The American College of Surgeons has announced the debut of a major new communications vehicle—a monthly newspaper—for members of the College and other surgeons across the country. Beginning this month, Surgery News will provide concise, cutting-edge reports from clinical meetings; reports on the politics affecting the surgical profession and the socioeconomic scene in Washington, DC, and at the state level; FDA actions and the results of clinical trials; expert commentary; reports on the business aspects of surgical practice today; and news from the College itself.

Surgery News is being published through a cooperative arrangement between the American College of Surgeons and the International Medical News Service, a part of the Elsevier Society News Group. Lazar J. Greenfield, MD, FACS, professor of surgery and chair emeritus at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is the Medical Editor of this timely publication. Dr. Greenfield is currently assembling an editorial board of surgical experts who will assist him in content development for the newspaper.

The primary objective of Surgery News is to provide concise, rather than comprehensive, reports on information that is current and relevant to all surgeons, no matter their specialty or practice location. ACS anticipates that its members as well as surgeons who do not belong to the College will find the publication to be timely, informative, and interesting.
