ACS SPRING MEETING CONVENES IN HOLLYWOOD, FL, APRIL 16-19, 2005CHICAGOThe American College of Surgeons' (ACS) 33rd Annual Spring Meeting will take place in Hollywood, FL, April 16-19, 2005, at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa. Sponsored by the College's Advisory Council for General Surgery, the Spring Meeting is dedicated to meeting the interests and the needs of the practicing general surgeon, and is designed to emphasize the College's strong commitment to and support of general surgery. However, the College invites all interested physicians and individuals in the health care field to attend this year's program. The four-day meeting will include general sessions, panel discussions, postgraduate courses, and a film program. The Spring Meeting will feature a joint ACS/Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES)/American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) symposium titled "Modern Management of Colon Cancer" on Saturday, April 16. This interactive session is being cosponsored as part of the 2005 Surgical Spring Week, during which the three organizations are holding their respective spring meetings in consecutive order to provide participants with the chance to attend each group's meeting in one trip. This year's Excelsior Surgical Society/Edward D. Churchill Lecture, "Primary Hyperparathyroidism: The Changing Surgical Paradigm," will be delivered by Jon A. van Heerden, MB, FRCS(C), FACS, FRCS(Edin)(Hon), Seabrook Island, SC, on Sunday, April 17. Nine postgraduate coursesopen to all physicians and health care professionalsare scheduled to be presented, along with 19 General Sessions. The Film Program, Highlights from the 2004 Clinical Congress, will round out the meeting. In addition to the courses and sessions, approximately 50 companies will present products or services related to the practice of surgery in the Technical Exhibits area. The American College of Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The American College of Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of 34 hours in Category 1 credit toward the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he or she actually spent in the educational activity. The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical education and practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.
