MARK YOUR CALENDARS: SAN FRANCISCO WILL HOST THE ACS CLINICAL CONGRESS OCTOBER 12-16

CHICAGO: The 2008 Clinical Congress of the American College of SurgeonsSone of the largest international meetings of surgeons in the worldSwill convene October 12-16, 2008, in San Francisco. The Clinical Congress will feature hundreds of scientific presentations highlighting research in progress in all surgical specialties. The Hilton San Francisco will serve as the headquarters hotel for the meeting and the Moscone Convention Center will house the general and scientific sessions as well as all scientific and technical exhibits.

The Clinical Congress program includes guest lectures by prominent leaders in surgery; 28 postgraduate courses; more than 250 hours of general and specialty sessions (146 total sessions); more than 55 hours of video-based education selections (23 total sessions); more than 35 Surgical Forum and Paper Sessions which will showcase leading-edge, research-in-progress papers; a series of press conferences; and more than 150 posters of timely scientific studies and practices.

Approximately 250 companies will display products or services that improve the quality of surgical patient care or enhance management practices within the surgical profession. This year’s meeting will feature hundreds of timely educational sessions including:

  • The Surgeon’s Role in Decreasing Operative Complications: An Evidence-Based Approach to Daily Operative Practices
  • Familial Breast Cancer: Evidence-Based Practices to Optimize Each Patient’s Care
  • Optimizing Outcomes for the Bariatric Surgical Patient
  • Evolving Modalities in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Appendicitis: Does Everyone Need an Operation?
  • Recent Advances in Oncology—Surgical, Medical, and Radiation
  • Universal Health Insurance for Our Diverse Population—Is It Just a Dream?
  • The Emerging Evidence for Cancer Stem Cells
  • The Educational Challenge of Surgical Workforce Shortage
