2009 Initiates Program
This session will provide strategies for coping with unexpected and adverse patient outcomes. Specific topics that will be covered include breaking bad news to patients and families, the art and the medico-legal implications of apologies, and techniques to help manage ultimate patient-care responsibility without feeling overwhelmed. Dr. Kodner directs the Center for the Study of Human Values and Ethics at Washington University, St. Louis, which supports the study, research, and teaching of ethics in areas ranging from medicine to business to architecture.

Practicing Medicine in the Information Age: Are You Prepared for What's on the Internet?
Co-Moderators: Josh Broghammer, MD, and Sanjay Parikh, MD, FACS Patients are spending more and more time using the Internet to screen their physicians and evaluate the care they are receiving. Do you know what type of information shows up when people view your online profile and how to improve it? Is your practice Web site up to date or out of date? What online resources do patients turn to for answers? Are you prepared to handle online personal health records? This session focuses on the information patients are able to access via the internet. Learn what patients can find out about you by using common search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Get tips and tricks for improving your online persona and practice Web site. Learn about commonly used patient resources available on the internet. Understand the upcoming push for online personal health records and what the implications may mean for your practice. |
