2006 Initiates Program— Achieving Balance

Moderator: Allan D. O. Levi, MD, FACS, Miami, FL
Alternate: Benjamin M. Maser, MD, FACS, Palo Alto, CA

Surgeons’ time commitments at work are increasing, leaving less time for family and a balanced life. By sharing real-life stories and experiences, this session will feature several speakers who have achieved balance in their personal and professional lives through trial and tribulation. In addition, a physician-psychologist will explain how to set goals and limitations in and out of the OR for achieving satisfying personal and career experiences.

Marketing Your Surgical Practice: Could you? Would You? Should you?

Moderator: Terry Buchmiller, MD, FACS
Alternate: Gregory Cherr, MD

Despite historic controversy, surgeons must now consider marketing tools when developing and managing their practices. This session will explore the following questions:

  • How will marketing improve referrals to my practice?
  • How can marketing change patients’ and referring physicians’ perceptions of a surgical practice?
  • What are the financial, legal and ethical issues of marketing?
  • What are the specific tools available to market a surgical practice?
