The Triological Society and the American College of SurgeonsClinical Scientist Development Award GuidelinesNovember, 2008
Note: Change in eligibility and new submission deadline - April 15, 2009 The Triological Society (TRIO) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) announce a competitive research career development program that will provide supplemental funding to otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeons who receive NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Awards (K08) or Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Development Awards (K23). Purpose Eligibility Requirements Mechanism of Support RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
Environment: The institution must have a well-established research and clinical career development program and qualified faculty in clinical and basic research to serve as mentors. The institution must be able to demonstrate a commitment to the development of the awardee as a productive, independent investigator. The awardee, mentor and institution must be able to describe a multi-disciplinary career development program that will maximize the use of relevant research and educational resources. Program: The award may provide three to five consecutive 12-month awards. At least 75 percent of the recipient's full-time professional effort must be devoted to the program and the remainder devoted to other clinical and teaching pursuits consistent with the objectives of the award. Mentor(s): The recipient must receive appropriate mentoring throughout the program. Allowable Cost TRIO and ACS will provide salary and fringe benefits for the NIH K08/K23 recipient. A combined total of $80,000 per year in direct costs will be awarded to the institution of the awardee. The institution may supplement the salary of the recipient up to a level that is consistent with the institution's salary scale. Institutional supplementation of salary must not require extra duties or responsibilities that would interfere with the purpose of the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award. TRIO and ACS will not reimburse indirect costs or institutional overhead.
