American College of Surgeons CME Joint Sponsorship Program
This program is not open to medical education commercial companies.
Since 2001 the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has provided CME credit for the educational activities of over 600 not-for-profit, non-accredited surgical and medical organizations.
- Approximately 120,000 surgeons have received CME through the program.
- Our joint sponsorship partners include specialty, regional, and national organizations
- The application fee is $375.
- Final fee: $175 per credit (10 credits assigned = $1750)
- ACS provides all forms and templates.
- Unlike other providers, there is no additional per attendee charge.
The American College of Surgeons, as the accredited provider, must ensure that the jointly sponsored activity is in compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Accreditation Criteria and AMA regulations. ACS forms must be used. ACS must be involved in all stages of the activity.
Following is an outline of the American College of Surgeons CME process:
PRIOR TO THE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY
- A pre-application must be submitted to ACS prior to the start of the planning of the activity.
- Upon approval, planning committee disclosures,activity planning form, and final application are e-mailed.
- Disclosure Forms are completed by Planning Committee prior to the first planning meeting.
- The Activity Planning Form is completed and submitted to ACS with final application.
- ACS must approve all materials–prior to printing–that pertain to exhibits, marketing, and advance brochures.
- Final Joint Sponsorship Application is submitted to ACS three months prior to activity.
- Upon ACS approval, forms and templates are e-mailed to the non-accredited society (NAS).
- NAS is responsible for completion of speaker disclosure forms and potential conflicts of interest (COI) are managed by a designated official using the ACS COI Management Form.
- All disclosure forms and management forms are sent to ACS prior to the meeting.
- Completion of a disclosure form at the meeting is not permitted.
- Educational Grant letters of agreement (LOA) are sent to ACS for signature prior to the meeting.
- Final program book copy, evaluation forms and CME certificates are submitted to ACS for approval prior to print .
- On-site disclosure summary form (if not printed in program book) is completed and copy submitted to ACS for approval prior to activity.
AT THE MEETING
- Disclosure summary is distributed on-site to all attendees at the start of the activity.
- Disclosure information must be revealed by a first slide or disclosed verbally at the start of the presentation.
- Activity Evaluation Form(s) are collected and CME certificates distributed—certificates may also be mailed post-meeting.
POST MEETING
- Excel spreadsheet of attendee list is e-mailed to ACS within 30 days of the activity.
- The final report is submitted to ACS within four months of the activity with:
- Two examples of completed on-site evaluations
- Evaluation summary
- Expense and revenue summary
- A copy of the final program book
- Post-meeting survey summary and examples
