Foreword

In 2004, Ajit Sachdeva, MD, FACS, FRCSC, Director, Division of Education, at the American College of Surgeons, contacted a group of us at the University of Toronto to request our assistance in developing an annotated bibliography of the literature important to educators who are using surgical skills laboratories as a complement to technical training. We were delighted to be asked for our participation in this project. Drs. Hamstra and Reznick are particularly grateful to our fellows in surgical education, Drs. Jason Park, Sarah Woodrow, Georges Savoldelli, and Carol-anne Moulton. These four surgeons have worked extraordinarily hard in conceptualizing the format for this bibliography, in reviewing hundreds of articles, and in authoring the synopses. Without their dedication this project would not have come to fruition. We, at the University of Toronto feel privileged to have been asked to participate in this project, and hope that the bibliography will be of ongoing value to the surgical education community.
