Dr. Dimitri Anastakis is chair of the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery, department of surgery, faculty of medicine, University of Toronto. He is the former associate director of surgical services at University Health Network in Toronto. He holds a masters of health professions education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a masters of health care management from Harvard University. Over the past two decades, Dr. Anastakis has served as surgical teacher, professor, director and chair of numerous committees and task forces. Dr. Anastakis is actively involved in surgical education research, including technical skills teaching and assessment, visual spatial abilities in surgical skills acquisition, and studying cortical plasticity during motor skills acquisition. Dr. Anastakis is committed to medical education and has won numerous awards for teaching and research.

Dr. Debra DaRosa is a professor of surgery and medical education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. In her 30-year academic career in surgical education, Dr. DaRosa has published over 100 abstracts, papers, and book chapters and has presented research, keynote addresses, and faculty development programs at regional, national, and international forums. She is a past-president of the ASE and received their Distinguished Educator Award in 2001. She serves on the editorial board of the Association of American Medical Colleges journal Academic Medicine. Dr. DaRosa is an honorary member of the Association of Women Surgeons and is one of two nonsurgeons awarded an honorary membership to the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Dr. Myriam Curet is a professor in the department of surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA. Dr. Curet has served as chair of the Committee on Resident Education of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and served on the ACS Committee on Medical Student Education. Dr. Curet has completed the surgical education research fellowship program sponsored by the ASE and the medical education scholars program at the University of New Mexico. She has served as associate dean for medical education, senior associate dean for graduate medical education, associate residency program director, and student clerkship director. She has also developed numerous medical school courses and is the recipient of many departmental and institutional teaching awards, including the 2006 ASE Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Mary Klingensmith is a professor in the department of surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis. She is currently residency program director, director of the surgical skills laboratory, associate director of the medical school simulation center, and the Loeb Teaching Fellow. Dr. Klingensmith is active on the boards of directors for both the ASE and Association of Program Directors in Surgery and is the current chair of the planning committee of the Surgical Council on Resident Education for the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Klingensmith is a recipient of the 2005 ASE Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. David Rogers is a professor in the department of surgery, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He has received a master’s degree in health professions education degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has also completed the surgical education research fellowship program sponsored by the ASE. Dr. Rogers continues ongoing educational research programs evaluating feedback in medical education and examining conflict in the operating room. Outside of his research activities, Dr. Rogers has served in a number of educational administrative roles and is currently the course director for the resident readiness senior medical student elective. A recipient of numerous departmental and institutional teaching awards, Dr. Rogers is a past-president of the ASE.

Dr. Stephen Yang is a professor and chief of thoracic surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he has served on the faculty since 1994. He is the surgical clerkship and curriculum director, director of the thoracic oncology program, and associate director of the cardiothoracic surgery residency. His clinical interests include all aspects of general thoracic surgery, with specific focuses in lung and esophageal cancer biology, geriatric research, and robotics surgery. Dr. Yang has received the 1996 William F. Rienhoff award for teaching and research at Johns Hopkins, the 1997 American Association of Thoracic Surgeons Andrew Morrow Research Scholar award, the 2004 Medical College of Virginia Outstanding Alumnus award, the 2007 Thoracic Surgery Directors Association clinical research mentor award, and the 2008 Johns Hopkins Dean’s Award as Clinical Teacher of the Year in the School of Medicine.
