Accreditation Statement
The American College of Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
AMA Credit Designation
The American College of Surgeons designates this enduring material for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Intended Audience
These modules are intended for surgeons, who have completed the ACS Comprehensive General Surgery Review Course offered in May or June, 2011.
Objectives
The ACS Comprehensive General Surgery Review Course provides an intensive review of the essential content areas in general surgery. Expert faculty uses a combination of didactic and case-based formats to create an efficient review, while enhancing understanding and retention. The online modules address content beyond that provided in the live course, provide any needed updates, help keep participants engaged in learning, and offer a forum for continued interaction with faculty. The course and the online modules will help fulfill the requirements for Maintenance of Certification, Part 2, and should be helpful in preparing for recertification examinations.
Requirements to Earn CME Credit
To be eligible for CME credit, learners must complete all four modules:
Module 1: Burns and Wound Care
Module 2: Alimentary
Module 3: Oncology
Module 4: Fluids and Electrolytes; Pain Management
For each module, learners must complete a brief pre-test, review the content, complete a posttest and achieve a score of 100 percent (with unlimited attempts), and complete a short evaluation form. Results must be submitted online by November 30, 2011. A CME certificate will be available to print upon completion of all four modules.
Release and Expiration Dates
The four modules will be released periodically during the months of August through November, 2011, and are certified for credit through December 31, 2011.
Disclosure Policy
In accordance with the ACCME’s Accreditation Criteria, the American College of Surgeons must ensure that anyone in a position to control the content of the educational activity has disclosed all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest. The ACCME defines a ‘commercial interest’ as “any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients”. It does not consider providers of clinical service directly to patients to be commercial interests. The ACCME considers “relevant” financial relationships as financial transactions (in any amount) that may create a conflict of interest and occur within the 12 months preceding the time that the individual is being asked to assume a role controlling content of the educational activity.
The ACCME also requires that ACS manage any reported conflict and eliminate the potential for bias. The CGSRC Planning Committee and Speakers were contacted and the conflicts listed below have been managed to our satisfaction. However, if you perceive a bias, please advise us of the circumstances on the evaluation form.
The requirement for disclosure is not intended to imply any impropriety of such relationships, but simply to identify such relationships through full disclosure, and to allow the learners to form its own judgments regarding the content.
