Accreditation Review Committee & Surveyors

The Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) consists of fellows of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) who have expertise in various aspects of skills education and training, in addition to directing their own centers. ARC Committee members are appointed by the ACS, serve a three-year term, and meet twice a year to make accreditation decisions and to evaluate the effectiveness of the overall ACS Program for Accreditation of Education Institutes (AEI).

The ARC makes its decisions and evaluations based on data gathered by surveyors of the AEI. This information determines the level of compliance a participating Institution achieves for each criterion of the three accreditation standards.

Surveyors are selected from among a group of people nominated or recruited by members of the ARC, the ACS Division of Education staff, and Fellows of the ACS. All surveyors have expertise in skills education. Surveyors are surgeons from across the world, participate in a comprehensive training program, and are continuously updated on accreditation program changes and enhancements.
