The Accredited Education Institutes program offers practicing surgeons, surgical residents, medical students, and members of the surgical team the educational opportunities to address acquisition and maintenance of skills and to focus on new procedures and emerging technologies.

Program for Verification of Surgical Knowledge & Skills

The Program for Verification of Surgical Knowledge & Skills is responsible for the development and implementation of the 5-level model of verification, the verification and maintenance of individual continuing medical education (CME) credit, and the coordination of surgical skills courses.

CME Joint Sponsorship Program

This program is not open to medical education commercial companies.

Since 2001 the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Education has provided CME credit for the educational activities of over 600 not-for-profit, non-accredited surgical and medical organizations.

Continuous Medical Education (CME) Accreditation

The ACS is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ACS Division of Education is responsible for maintaining that accreditation status and oversees educational programs across the entire College to ensure that they are planned and executed in compliance with the ACCME Accreditation Criteria and the AMA Credit System Regulations.

In a typical year, the College offers approximately 2,000 CME activities and provides approximately 34,000 hours of instruction for almost 50,000 physicians. The CME activities are extremely diversified in content as well as type and include live courses throughout the world, e-learning activities, and enduring materials. A joint sponsorship program for non-accredited organizations is available and is described under the CME Joint Sponsorship Program.
