The Surgical Research Committee of the American College of Surgeons presented the Eighth Biennial Young Surgical Investigators Conference on March 3-5 of 2006 to assist surgeons entering the process of obtaining extramural, peer-reviewed grant support for their work. The goal of this conference was to introduce young surgeons to the process, the content, the style, and the people involved in successful grant-writing and interactions with the National Institute of Health (NIH). Senior surgeon-scientists and staff members of the NIH served as faculty.
